Liverpool has been told by Burnley that they can forget about trying to sign Danny Ings this month even if they would let the 22-year-old remain at Turf Moor until the end of the season.

The Clarets striker is out of contract come the summer with both Liverpool and Tottenham looking to sign him, yet the clubs chief executive Lee Hoos insists that the clubs main striker is going nowhere saying: “This is the last time we will be making any comment regarding the player’s future.

“Over the course of the window, the player himself, Sean Dyche and the chairman have made it clear he won’t be going anywhere and we consider that the end of the matter.”

Switching to another Burnley matter fellow striker Ashley Barnes thinks that Chelsea bad boy Diego Costa is an angel compared to some of the underhanded ways he behaves with the 25-year-old committing 41 fouls in 20 appearances.

Barnes said: “Everyone will give you a battle; you’ve just got to make sure you come out on top.

“You just try and ruffle defences up, it’s just playing the game, really.

“I just try to be a nuisance as much as possible for defenders and if it pays off, it pays off. I do all I can do.

“Standing on people’s toes is one of the little tricks.

“They’re not really used to it and you can tell that. They’re used to just having the ball and being in control. If you can get amongst them, they don’t like it.

“It’s just a normal battle but in the Premier League, they’re not used to it.”
