Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is preparing to spend the £75 million raised from the sale of Luiz Suarez to Barcelona and then some as Liverpool looks to challenge for the Premiership title and make their mark in Europe after a five-year absence.

In what will echo Spurs spending spree last season when the club went out spending big to sign players following the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid, Kop boss Rodgers is heading back to Southampton where he hopes to sign striker Jay Rodriguez according to the Daily Mirror.

The Northern Irishman has also targeted Benfica’s Serbian winger Lazar Markovic in a deal that should be finalized any day now along with Alberto Moreno of Sevilla with both sides at odds over the transfer fee Liverpool may in this particular case drop their pursuit of the Spanish defender and target Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand who would be available for less than half what Sevilla is asking for Moreno.

Another Saint who may make the trip up to Merseyside is Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren who has said he will boycott training after learning that Southampton rejected a £20 million offer from Liverpool for him.

There are also other less notable players coming in such as Swansea’s Michael Vorm to challenge Simon Mignolet for his number one goalkeeping position as well as a striker to replace Suarez with Chelsea’s Belgium international Romelu Lukaku or possibly as we mentioned earlier another Southampton player Jay Rodriguez who had his World Cup dream crushed after being side-lined with a cruciate ligament injury.

The Liverpool boss seems to think he is the perfect replacement for Suarez, so watch the video below and see what you think as Liverpool prepare for the season without their leading goal scorer.
