The Daily Express quoting sources in Spain is this morning claiming that Liverpool has put Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema top of their January transfer list and that the Reds are willing to pay Los Blancos £50 million in the hope of changing their goal scoring habits.

With main striker Daniel Sturridge out injured since the end of August Liverpool strikers Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini have all failed to put the ball in the back of the net scoring just one goal between them while at the same time having to rely on 20-year-old winger Raheem Sterling to score.

Liverpool manager Rodgers has decided to solve Liverpool’s goal scoring problems by bringing in Benzema, who in the past has also been linked to Arsenal.

In a star packed Real Madrid team it would not be a problem for trainer Carlo Ancelotti to let Benzema leave, especially when the Italian is eager to raise funds in order to be able to go after Manchester City’s Sergio Agüero and Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus according to Spanish journalist Manuel Esteban, who claims Benzema could leave at any time saying:

“Benzema is on thin ice. If they receive a big bid, they will not be hesitant.”

“The dream is to combine Kun Agüero, Marco Reus and Cristiano Ronaldo, who would become the best front line in the world of football.
