Liverpool leads the race to sign Aston Villa’s Fabian Delph as the Merseyside club prepare for the departure of Steven Gerrard.

The current thinking is that the long-serving Gerrard who turns 35-years-old in May could possibly turn down any reduced salary offer from Liverpool and go and play in the North American MLS where Thierry Henrys old club the New York Red Bulls have first option for the Liverpool legend after having put him on their discovery list.

With this in mind the Reds are considering a move for Delph in January in the hope that Aston Villa would prefer to cash in now on the 25-year-old rather than see him leave on a Bosman in July when his contract expires.

Aware of Liverpool’s interest manager Paul Lambert has already instructed his scouts to look for a central midfielder.

Delph was Villa’s player of the season 2013/2014 and had just broken into Roy Hodgeson’s England squad before dislocating his shoulder.

Have a look at the video below and decide if he would be a suitable replacement for the Liverpool skipper.
