Liverpool has approached Serie A side Napoli over the availability of their top striker Gonzalo Higuain who they think could be the catalyst that will push them to a top-four finish next season.

The 27-year-old Argentinian international striker is thought to be keen on a move away from Italy but it remains to be seen if he would be willing to join a club that is not involved in Champions League football next season.

Napoli for their part does not want to see Higuain leave and have slapped a £46 million price tag on his head in the hope of deterring potential suitors according to Fichajes.net.

Liverpool should they get wind that Higuain would indeed be willing to test himself in the Premiership would try to use Mario Balotelli as a way of lowering the transfer fee, while at the same time giving the Italians a replacement striker.
