Liverpool to bid on Arsenal target Mateo Kovacic

Liverpool is set to bid £8 million for Inter Milan’s Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic who has also in the past been linked with a move to Arsenal according to METRO.

The 19-year-old joined Inter Milan from Dinamo Zagreb   in January of 2013 after being recognized as one of the best young midfielders in Europe.

Yet despite some fine performances for the I Nerazzurri trainer Walter Mazzarri has dropped him from the team prompting speculation that there is a problem between the player and the coach.

Kovacic’s agent Nikky Vuksan said: “During the last two weeks everyone is calling me to understand what will happen to Mateo since he is not playing. Everything I can say is that he has a contract with Inter, of course he isn’t happy getting such a small amount of playing time but what player would be? The relation to Mazzarri? The coach chooses who plays and when, those in the best form will play and those who aren’t must work hard. There are no problems with Mazzarri or the club. If Mateo is afraid of losing his World Cup spot? Absolutely not. He is almost a certain starter for his national team now. Croatia isn’t like Italy, it’s a small country that doesn’t have many talents and Mateo is certainly one of the talented players of the nation.”

As reports continued to circulate about the youngsters future Vuksan said more recently: ‘Everybody is confused as to why Mateo is not playing.

‘Is there a row with Mazzarri I can’t say a lot, but he is not happy.’

This news has alerted Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers who is an admirer of Kovacic’s superb passing skills that would fit in perfectly to the way he wants Liverpool to play, and after having signed Philippe Coutinho from Inter Milan in January of 2013 he could well be right in thinking that Kovacic will adapt at Liverpool in the same way that the Brazilian has.

Liverpool will certainly want to get a deal done before the World Cup and with an £8 million price tag the Croatian international sounds like another bargain the Serie A side will let go.

Have a look at the video below and see if he is the type of player that will do well on Merseyside.
