With the imminent departure of Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard nest summer manager Brendan Rodgers is wasting no time in finding a replacement, and thinks he might have found the man in the form of Roma’s Radja Nainggolan.

The Belgium international is a key figure in manager Rudi Garcia’s side after having made a loan deal from Cagliari permanent last summer.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is also in the market for a defensive midfielder and was thought to have an agreement in place for Nainggolan’s teammate Kevin Strootman, before the Dutch international was once again side-lined with a knee injury which will see him out until the end of the season.

Reports in Italy are suggesting United will face stiff competition from Liverpool while Garcia will do everything he can to keep Nainggolan at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.
