Liverpool will be looking to former Red Xabi Alonso for insider knowledge before launching an £18 million bid for Real Madrid defensive midfielder Asier Illarramendi says the Daily Star quoting Spanish newspaper El Confidencial.
The now 33-year-old Alonso played with Illarramendi at the Santiago Bernabeu last season before moving to Germany to play for Bayern Munich, and Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is hoping he can get the inside scoop on the former Real Sociedad defensive midfielder .
Illarramendi has played 23 matches for the Spanish giants this season, but most of the time coming off the bench, and is now set to fall further down the pecking order after the arrival of Brazilian Lucas Silva.
Liverpool is set to lose Captain Steven Gerrard in the summer to the LA galaxy and will be looking at Illarramendi as his possible replacement.
