Liverpool appear to be the front runners in the race to sign Chelsea defender Ashley Cole , with MLS outfit the New York Red Bulls also interested in the 33-year-old left-back according to the Daily Express.

Cole was seen crying after the 0-0 match against Norwich which is thought to be his last ever game for the Blues at Stamford Bridge with his contract set to expire this summer.

It was assumed that Jose Mourinho was going to go after Manchester United target Luke Shaw as Coles replacement,  but the Portuguese manager feels that Southampton are asking too much money for the 18-year-old, so will instead move for Seville’s Alberto Moreno.

The La Liga side will be prepared to let the 21-year-old defender leave for £15 million half the amount it will cost United to sign Shaw, with the Northwest club saying they are prepared to offer the Saints £30 million for the youngster and will give him a contract worth £100,000 per-week to get him to move to Old Trafford.
