Liverpool striker, and Reds fan Rickie Lambert turned down the chance to Join Aston Villa last night preferring to stay at Anfield and fight for his place in the team.

Aston Villa offered Liverpool £5 million for the centre-forward plus the chance of regular first team football, yet the 32-year-old who had just joined his boyhood club last summer for£4.5 million could not just up and leave after eight months preferring to live out his dream and fight for a place in the team.

Earlier yesterday Liverpool had offers from Hull City looking to bring Lambert in on loan till the end of the season, but after weighing up all his options and with 16 months still remaining on his contract Lambert informed all parties that he would be staying on Merseyside.

Lambert has scored three goals for Liverpool since joining from Southampton, and was an unused substitute in last weekend’s 2-0 win over West Ham.
