The news leaking out of Stamford Bridge is that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is planning to make some major defensive changes in the summer that could see Branislav Ivanovic move to his preferred position at centre-back where he will play alongside Captain John Terry.

Cesar Azpilicueta has been pencilled in for the right-back position which will than allow Luis Filipe to play at left-back.

Despite the fact renewing John Terry one-year contract will be just a formality, Mourinho realizes that the Blues captain cannot play forever and is looking at Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane as a possible replacement.

Mourinho had wanted to bring Varane with him when he returned to Chelsea from Real Madrid in 2013 and has been following the 21-year-old French defender since then watching him go on to be a regular in Carlo Ancelotti’s team playing alongside Sergio Ramos.

This of course could spell bad news for Gary Cahill who lost his place in Chelsea’s Capital One Cup semi-final to Kurt Zouma who it has to be said put in a man-of-the-match-performance.

Despite this Mourinho is not yet ready to make Zouma a first-team regular wary of putting too much pressure on the youngster.
