Liverpool and England right-back Glen Johnson has long been linked with a summer move away from Anfield after he and Liverpool failed to agree a new contract with the Merseyside club offering the 30-year-old a new deal worth half of his current earnings.

Fiorentina and Juventus were both thought to be interested, but Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport is now reporting that AS Roma have won the race for Johnson’s signature.

Come January Johnson will be free to discuss terms with other clubs and at that time be able to sign a contract ahead of a free transfer in the summer.

The deal appears to be all done and dusted ready for January and the papers to be signed.
