In what is a disappointing sign just before the Holidays Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has warned the Gunners faithful not to expect any new signings in January despite the club being in the middle of an injury crisis with eight first-team players ruled out for Saturdays clash with Newcastle United at the Emirates.

Abou Diaby, Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal, Mikel Arteta, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Mesut Özil and Theo Walcott will all be absent when Alan Pardew’s team comes to town fresh after their win over league leaders Chelsea last weekend at St James Park.

Yet despite the list of absent players Wenger insists he does not need to enter the transfer market telling talkSPORT: “If everybody is fit and available, we don’t need to go into the transfer market.”

“But we have to consider that there could be a question mark with Koscielny’s fitness and we have to go out on the transfer market.

“There will be very little activity, because all the big clubs want to keep their players, and it will be as usual quiet in the first three weeks and a bit frenetic in the last three or four days.”
