Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has made signing pass-master Allen his top priority this summer, but has been frustrated in his attempts to negotiate a deal, with the player in Olympic action for Team GB.

Liverpool to continue efforts to sign Swansea's Joe Allen after Olympic exit

However, following Britian’s quarter-final defeat to South Korea over the weekend, Allen is now due back at Swansea later this week, for talks over his proposed move to Liverpool.

Allen is believed to have already told Swansea of his desire to follow Rodgers to Anfield, but is refusing to force through a move.

Rodgers has been handed a £15 million valuation of the player by Swansea, but is hopeful he can bring that price down during talks in the next few days.

Liverpool are ready to splash out £10 million on Allen, with the rest to follow in installments, and have already cleared space, after selling Alberto Aquilani to Fiorentina late last week.

Allen is seen as the first of several new receruits due on Merseyside in the next few weeks, with Porto winger Christian Atsu likely to be the next, after Liverpool made contact with his agent over a move.

Highly rated Atsu, who is also a target for Tottenham, has been told he can leave Porto this summer for the right price, following a successful loan spell with Rio Ave.

Porto are demanding £7 million for the sale of the talented wideman, but Liverpool are hopeful a deal can be struck.
