It could be that Liverpool will soon be known as the Samba boys after the Reds give up on trying to sign Croatian international midfielder Mateo Kovacic, and switch their attention to his Brazilian international teammate Hernanes according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Liverpool has been trying for weeks to sign 21-year Mateo Kovacic, but have now given up banging their head against the wall for a player Inter Milan do not want to sell, with the belief that manager Roberto Mancini wants the Croatian to play alongside new signing Geoffrey Kondogbia.

By not selling Kovacic it makes 30-year-old Brazilian international Hernanes available to plug the gap left by the departing Steven Gerrard, and while not a long term solution to Liverpool’s problems it would certainly be god enough for a few seasons.

The Brazilian midfielder joined Inter Milan from Lazio for 20million euros in 2013 and as yet we have no idea of what the Nerazzurri would be willing to accept in order for him to move to Anfield.
