Man City 1 Arsenal 1

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny is the latest centre back to be linked with a move to Barcelona.

The Spanish paper Marca are reporting that Barcelona will test Arsenal's resolve with a 15million euros bid. The paper also claims that Barcelona have been in contact with Arsenal, however the English club aren't interested in selling their defender and value him at more than 15million euros.

When fit for selection, Koscielny was superb for Arsenal last year, with the club only conceding four goals in the last 10 games when he played (two of which were set pieces).

The form of Koscielny was enough to edge club captain Thomas Vermaelen out of the side and onto the substitute bench.

Arsene Wenger is now reportedly ready to sell the Belgain international, with Koscielny and Per Mertersacker his favoured defensive partnership.

However the news of further Barcelona interest in an Arsenal player will no doubt alarm Wenger, who has lost countless Gunners to the Nou Camp over the last few years.

The Spanish giants conceded at a rate of more than a goal per game in last seasons La Liga and no longer want to draft in makeshift central defenders.

Javier Mascherano and Sergio Busquets are both excellent footballers, however central defenders they are not and Barcelona were exposed far too often last season.

When you consider whether Mark Bartra is ready yet, Eric Abidal's release and Carlos Puyol's age and injury problems, Barca are left with just the one real centre back Gerard Pique.

The club had lined up both Vincent Kompany and Thiago Silva, however feel they have no chance of signing either and now Koscielny is their number one target.
