Aaron Ramsey

When Spurs sold Gareth Bale to Real Madrid in the summer, the world wondered where the Premier League would get the next Welsh wonder. Little did they know that the Welsh wonder had only moved from the white half of North London to the Red half and real North London.

Out went Gareth Bale and up rose Aaron Ramsey. Arsenal’s Welsh star has been in superb form for the Gunners this season, already notching 13 goals before hobbling off injured on boxing day against West Ham.

Arsenal legend Martin seems to know the secret behind Ramsey’s rise.

“Of course it would have spurred Ramsey on,” said Keown.

“It’s inspirational when you see one of your team-mates or opponent,  fellow countrymen, do something like Gareth Bale does.

“When he can just run past players at will.

“Last season he was totally amazing. He’s still doing a decent job now.”

“It’s about time that the Welsh team really started to use that resource that they have,” said Keown.

“There’s a few Welsh players now, playing regularly in the Premier League, so I expect to see an improvement in the next round of championship games.

“I think the future looks good for them, but there’s a lot of good Welsh players around and it’s about really all of those coming together at the right time.”

Of course, I think Ramsey has really taken a lift from the performance of his compatriot. Seeing the way he lit up the Premier League with his amazing runs and cracking goals. Both players don’t play in similar roles. While Bale plays as an attacker, Ramsey operates as a box to box midfielder but one thing both men have in common is the energy they burn during matches and a knack for trying their luck from a distance. Already this season, Ramsey has scored  some goals from long distances most notably was the goal against Liverpool.

I believe Wales have enough arrows in their quiver to do well on the international scene. It is high time the British team make it into a major tournament. Of course the World Cup is already out of reach but they can make it to the 2018 European championship.
