JOSE MOURINHO is ready and willing to take over as manager of Manchester City next summer.

With City boss Roberto Mancini on thin ice after crashing out of the Champions League, Real Madrid chief Mourinho is waiting in the wings.

And even though Mancini has signed a contract through to 2017, City owner Sheikh Mansour might be tempted to sever ties with the Italian if he can get the former Chelsea manager.

Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes recently met with City’s new director of football Txiki Begiristain in Portugal.

And Mourinho’s advisors have indicated the Real boss, who still has four years of his deal to run at the Bernabeu, would prefer City over Paris St Germain, which is another option available to him.

The Special One made a none too subtle pitch for the City job when his Real side clinched qualification for the knockout phase of the Champions League at the Etihad last week.

Before the game, Mourinho, 49, said City would not get through and that no big club should go out at the group stage two seasons in a row.

He also made it apparent how much he missed England and would welcome a return to the country where he spent three years in charge of Chelsea.

But City fans were far from welcoming to the Real chief. They chanted “f*** off Mourinho” and loudly sang Mancini’s name.
