Manchester United have suffered at set back in their hope of solving some of their defensive problems after super-agent Jorge Mendes tells the club that Valencia’s Argentinian central defender Nicolas Otamendi is not for sale.

United manager Louis van Gaal is keen to add to his defensive options after being frustrated with the performances of Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones while new signings Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo have been plagued with injuries.

The Daily Star quoting goal.com says the 26-year-old will stay with the la Liga club as they battle for silverware in Spain.

United are also being linked with Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane,PSG’s Marquinhos and Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels.
