Gunners closing in on £16m defender

Arsenal is very close to signing Southampton defender Calum Chambers for £16 million according to Sky News.
The U-21England star is set to become Arsenal’s second right-back summer signing following on from Frenchman Mathieu Debuchy after having already completed a medical for the north London club.
Chambers also has the ability to play at centre-half and would be looked as a replacement should Thomas Vermaelen either move to Manchester United or Barcelona.

Should the deal between Arsenal and Southampton go through for the 19-year-old it would be yet another first team player that the Saints would have lost this summer following on from Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw with Dejan Lovren also expected to finalize his move to Liverpool in the coming days.
When talking to Sky Sports after Southampton’s friendly win over nearby Bournemouth new manager Ronald Koeman says he is ready to replace members of his squad.

“Lovren said he is not in shape to play, but of course there is something underhand. We have to wait.
“I expect everything. I know the possibilities of some of the biggest clubs in England and Southampton had a great season, its normal they could lose some players.”
Morgan Schneiderlin has also been linked to former manager Mauricio Pochettino’s new club Tottenham, , and Koeman said: “He will start training on Saturday and then we have time enough to have a little talk.”
