Here at Soccer Transfers we are happy in a way that Liverpool got knocked out of the Europa League, as finishing in the top-four and all the money that goes along with being in the Champions League is far more important the Europa League, unless you can go all the way and win it.

And we think it was obvious from the team that Brendan Rodger put out that his mind was focused on Saturdays match with Manchester City.

It is nice to see that former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp agrees that not being in the Europa League will be a blessing in disguise for both Liverpool and Tottenham after the Reds lost on penalties to Besiktas in Istanbul, while Spurs lost in Florence 2-0.

“The race for a top four place is wide open,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. “Liverpool have been done a favour going out of the Europa League. Tottenham are the same.

“They only have the league to concentrate on. In terms of getting into the top four it will give them a better opportunity being out of the Europa League.”
