Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Patrick Herrmann has rejected the interest of both Arsenal and Manchester United by signing a new contract with the North Rhine-Westphalia club that will keep him there until 2019.

The 24-year-old has been in fine form for the Bundesliga side this season scoring eight goals with two assists that see the team sitting third in the table behind Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg.

This had attracted the attention of both Premiership big wigs who were expected to meet his £14.5 million buyout clause this summer.

With the possibility of Champions League football on offer for Monchengladbach next season Herrmann has committed his future to the club.

“I feel at home here,” he said. “These are conditions for me to continue down this successful path that should also again lead to the national team.

“But with Borussia I also have goals.

“The Europa League matches this season wet my appetite for more. I want to be successful with the club both nationally and internationally.”

Speaking about the German stars new deal sporting director Max Eberl said: “We’re delighted that we’ve been able to tie Patrick down here and that he wants to continue with us along the successful path we’re following.

“Patrick has developed from a youth player to a Bundesliga player with us and we’re pleased that he wants to take the next step in his career here.”
