Nemanja Vidic

Galatasaray manager Roberto Mancini has quashed rumours that his side is interested in signing Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic.

The 32-year-old Serbian defenders contract is up in the summer which has led pro Manchester United website the pride of Europe to suggest that Vidic may be on his way out of Old Trafford.

Galatasaray have been one of the clubs named as a possible destination but now Mancini has dismissed this by saying he needs player now that are eligible to play in the Champions League which Vidic is not having already played this season for United.

Mancini said: “Every manager would want a player as experienced as Vidic on their team.

“He is the type of player who can really make a difference, however, I need a player who can play Champions League football.

“It doesn’t matter how good he is I need a player ahead for the Champions League urgently and as a result Vidic isn’t in our plans.”

Currently the talk is that Moyes is ready to offer Vidic a new one year contract knowing that he will lose Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra in the summer, and that if he was to let Vidic leave as well it would be too big a blow for the United defence.
