Last summer, Manchester United were linked to the signing of many centre backs including Atletico Madrid’s João Miranda de Souza Filho simply known as Miranda but the Red devils ended the window without having signed any centre back. Fast forward seven months later, the Red devils are said to be back in the race to sign Miranda.

According to respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United are back in for the player and will hope they can sign him this summer. The reports claim Manchester United scouts are compiling a list of very good centre backs which will club will go after once a decision is made on who will be the manager next season.

Miranda is also on the radar of Bayern Munich but according to the reports, the Red Devils will attempt to sign the player ahead of the Bavarians using the offer of much more regular first team football to lure the player to Old Trafford.

Miranda who is currentl on loan to Inter Milan is half way through a two year loan to the Italians. Inter Milan have an option to buy the player from Atletico for €11m but according to Gazzetta dello Sport Inter Milan will not be paying to sign the player permanently which means Manchester United or any other club interested in him can sign him for cheap.

The player is said to be earning £80,000 a week with Inter Milan which is a wage package Manchester United can afford to pay considering even Phil Jones who spends more time with the medical team than on the pitch earns just as much.

But do United actually need Miranda, a 31-year-old centre back in a fast paced league such as the Premier league? No doubt, the Brazilian is a very good defender but United will be well served if they go for a younger defender.

Subotic or Hummels or Manolas maybe?
