ALEX FERGUSON has called on his Manchester United players to finish the job and seal top spot in their Champions League group.

The Old Trafford outfit have nine points from a possible nine in Europe and lead Group H ahead of FC Cluj, Braga and Galatasaray.

This time last year United had just five points and ended up missing out on the knockout stage.

But victory over Braga in Portugal on Wednesday would ensure a repeat of that nigthmare scenario is avoided.

And Fergie, who who marks 26 years as United manager today, claims that would be the perfect present for him.

He said: “Yes, it would be a nice one.

“And with nine points from the first three games we really should be kicking on and make sure we confirm the No1 spot.

“That’s the important thing. It’s always good to win your group.”

Ferguson believes his use of younger players last term was the reason his team flopped — and the wily old Scot has learned from that lesson this time around.

He said: “After the experience of last season, we’re showing that we’re paying more attention to team selection in the sense that we’ve used a big proportion of experienced players.

“The front players in our home game against Braga would be a handful for any team — Robin van Persie, Chicharito and Wayne Rooney.

“Having a goal threat like that gives you a backbone.”
