FA chiefs may look to increase John Terry’s punishment for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand.

FA can ask for bigger JT ban

They can appeal the decision of last week’s Independent Commission in exactly the same way as the Chelsea skipper can challenge the findings.

An FA source revealed: “We act as the prosecution in these cases and if we do not agree with the Commission’s findings we have the right to appeal just like the defendant.

“Admittedly it is something that is done very rarely but it is an option open to us.”

Both the FA and Terry are currently waiting for the Commission’s written report of the four-day hearing and the reasons behind the former England captain’s four-match ban and £220,000 fine.

Terry had previously been cleared of similar criminal charges in July following an incident with QPR’s Ferdinand in a league game last October.
