Former Tottenham striker and current FC Toronto player Jermain Defoe looks set to return to the Premiership after agreeing to join Sunderland in a deal that will see him earn a salary of £70,000 per-week according to the Guardian newspaper.

Currently the 32-year-old Defoe is training at the Stadium of light and is hoping to make his start for the Black Cats against his old club Tottenham on Saturday.

Sunderland have struggled when it comes to goals this season scoring just 18 in 21 matches, but with a proven goalscorer like Defoe now in the team that could all change and be the difference between relegation and survival.

Well done Gus Poyet we think it is a brilliant signing!!!
