DAVID DE GEA has four months to convince Manchester United they do not need to make a summer move for Asmir Begovic.

The Spaniard, 22, is under mounting pressure after several high-profile gaffes.

And United are now circling Stoke goalkeeper Begovic.

Yesterday, Potters boss Tony Pulis completed the £4million signing of England’s Jack Butland from Birmingham before loaning him back until the end of the season as a hedge against Begovic’s potential exit.

De Gea was at fault for Southampton’s goal in United’s 2-1 win at Old Trafford on Wednesday but team-mate Michael Carrick, whose backpass fell short, took the flak.

Carrick said: “I didn’t get enough on it, it’s totally my fault and I take the blame.”
