David Moyes

Three of the top British newspapers are running stories today saying that Manchester United’s owners the Glazer family are going to give new manager David Moyes a substantial amount of money so that he can bring in new players, and hopefully turn United’s season around.

In The Times’ James Ducker wrote:

David Moyes will be given substantial funds to reshape his Manchester United squad with the Glazer family recognising that the manager requires world-class reinforcements to help to maintain Sir Alex Ferguson’s legacy of success.

Ian Herbert in the Independent writes:

There is an acceptance that the club should have bought out Moyes’ contract at Everton as soon as they appointed him – giving him six extra weeks to prepare for the frantic summer transfer window.

There is now an acceptance that the additional 52 days would have given him time to meet the scouting staff and consider their work, in readiness for the summer business.

Though United indicated that they remained interested in Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera, having failed to secure his signature on transfer-deadline night, there are no guarantees that they will be ready to put aside their unease about breaking the club record transfer fee to sign the 24-year-old, come January.

Meanwhile Jamie Jackson at the Guardian believes United will sign Herrera writing:

David Moyes will be backed by the Glazer family in the January transfer window should he wish to spend heavily, with the Manchester United manager considering a potential £50m move for Everton’s Leighton Baines and Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera.
