New signing Diego Costa has been told he needs to hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge and start scoring goals from the off or face being labelled another hot shot flop by the Blues faithful.

Chelsea has just completed the signing of the 25-year-old Atletico Madrid striker for £32 million, with Costa knowing that it is important not to succumb to the same fate that befell fellow Spaniard Fernando Torres when he signed from Liverpool for £50 million back in 2011.

Former Chelsea player Andriy Shevchenko also warned Costa telling the Daily Star there will be no period to allow him to adjust to the Premiership saying: “The best thing for Costa is to score and score early.

“That will be important to him.

“The expectations from the fans and the club are very big so he needs to score and get going.”

Shevchenko then added: “I’m sure he will do well. I think he is a good striker and I like him.”
