Coentrao

Just last week Diário de Notícias journalist Gonçalo Lopes broke the news that United were closing in on a deal to bring Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao to Old Trafford, and now this Sunday morning the Daily Telegraph agrees with its headline “United deal for Coentrao is on”.

The story quotes the Portuguese players agent Jorge Mendes who has assured United that his player is keen on the deal that will see him move to United from Real Madrid on loan till the end of the season.

Spanish daily sports newspaper AS is also confirming that a deal is all but done and that announcement will be issued in the next few days.

The 25-year-old defender has barely featured under Carlo Ancelotti due to injury, and was said to have been devastated when a deal to take him to United failed to materialize last summer.

Ancelotti has a deep squad when it comes to defenders and relies on Marcelo for the left-back spot so has no problem letting Coentrao leave on loan in order to get more playing time in the hope of raising his chance to join Portugal for next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
