Chosen One Banner to stay at Old Trafford

A banner depicting Manchester United manager David Moyes as “the chosen one” that sits high up in the Stretford End of Old Trafford will not be removed should Manchester United get knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday night when they take on Greek side Olympiakos who lead by 2-0 after the first-leg in Piraeus.

The banner points to the fact that Moyes was hand-picked for the job by fellow Scot Sir Alex Ferguson and has been adorning the ground since Moyes joined United from Everton last summer.

There was talk earlier today that should United come Acropolis against the men from Athens tonight that the banner would come down.

Stretford End flags who own the banner have said whatever happens tonight they will resist calls to have it removed.

They also urged United fans to get behind the team regardless of their views on Moyes saying:

“Tonight’s focus should be on supporting the team, giving support to inspire the team to victory,” tweeted the Stretford End Flags official account today.

“Calls to take the Chosen One banner down will not be considered and the banner will remain up tonight as a symbol of support for the team, as we expect from the fans vocal support.

“We fully expect the Old Trafford crowd to be behind the team tonight as we seek victory on the pitch.

“Any removal of the banner will be seen by fans, the players and worldwide media as a call for the manager to go. Not needed during the game.”
