While 20-year-old Kurt Zouma put in another fine performance for Chelsea last night at they beat West Ham 0-1 at Upton Park, it was another Chelsea youngster that Mourinho wanted to talk about.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek was on the bench for the games against West Ham, and while he failed to make it onto the pitch the Portuguese manager insisted that it was only because Chelsea was battling to clinch the Premiership title that is stopping him from playing the 19-year-old.

He said: “I had Ruben Loftus-Cheek on the bench and I have to say that, in my opinion, next year, this kid will be a big surprise in the Premier League.

“This season, if I was not playing for the title and we were not playing with the pressure we have, this kid would already be on the pitch.”

The 6ft 4in central midfielder has been at Chelsea since the age of eight, and is often described as the next Nemanja Matic.
