According to one Sunday newspaper yesterday, Chelsea are all set to test Manchester United’s resolve by offering £35 million for Wayne Rooney in January.
Last summer Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said that Rooney was the only man he wanted to sign, and after having had two previous bids rejected the Portuguese manager will make another try at signing the England international in the New Year.
During the summer there was plenty of talk about the United striker being unhappy at Old Trafford, but that appears to have now vanished following a number of impressive displays for the Red Devils.
28-year-old Rooney has 20 months still remaining on his contract, and despite talk that a new deal will be offered nothing has materialized prompting the Chelsea boss to try and tempt him to leave.
Despite the new found recent form of Fernando Torres, Mourinho still needs a world-class striker to join his team, but whether or not it will be Rooney or not we will have to wait and see.
