According to reports coming out of Turkey Chelsea is set to go head-to-head with Manchester United for Atletico Madrid attacking midfielder Arda Turan.

The Turkish national team captain made the headlines last season for throwing his shoe at a linesman when a decision during a Copa del Rey match against Barcelona was not given his way.

This has not however dissuaded clubs for making a move for the 28-year-old with PSG supposedly already putting a bid of £18 million on the table.

A move anywhere except the Premiership is unlikely to happen after the bearded stars agent Ahmet Bulut said: Arda intends to leave Spain this summer and his will is to play in the Premier League, as that is where he wants to take his career at this time.”

Despite the interest of Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, Chelsea could hold the upper hand as they are also looking to sign French international Antoine Griezmann and have Filippe Luis, Mohamed Salah and if need be even Brazilian playmaker Oscar to offer to Diego Simeone’s club.

Manchester United meanwhile have only signed Memphis Depay, with everyone waiting to see where LVG will spend the £150 million he reportedly has available.
