Chelsea are linked with a surprise move for Barcelona midfield powerhouse Arda Turan, it is claimed.
It is reported that the West London club are set to place a bid for the Turkish international in the summer transfer window. The Blues went head-to-head with Barcelona for the player last summer. However, he opted for a move to a familiar environment in Barcelona.
Turan eventually left Atletico Madrid to the Catalan club for a fee in the region of €34 million, plus performance-related bonuses of €7 million.
Nevertheless, Chelsea, in their familiar diehard spirit, are back on his radar and are looking to leverage on his lack of regular game time to lure the central midfielder away. With just nine starts for Barcelona this season, there are claims that he is unhappy and currently weighing up options.
However, Barcelona are reportedly not eager to sell the 29-year-old, and they are willing to have him see out another season at the club.
Antonio Conte’s midfield next season needs some strengthening since he will be hoping to qualify for the UEFA Champions league spot. It remains to be seen if he can secure the signing of the Turkish international but what is sure is that the likes of Mikel and Matic needs someone who would compete with them.
Meanwhile Roma’s midfielder Radja Nainggolan is also linked with a move to Chelsea.
