Chelsea move in on £40m Spanish striker

Chelsea is leading the race to sign £40 million rated Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa according to the Daily Mail.

Jose Mourinho’s search has been narrowed down with the inform Costa being top of his wish list as a summer signing.

Costa has been scouted by numerous clubs including Arsenal, but the Blues look set to do a complicated deal that will also involve Atletico signing goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois who has been with them on loan from Chelsea.

Doubt remains over Mourinho allowing a permanent move for the keeper, as he was only supposed to be on loan while Petr Cech was still Chelsea’s number one other option however could be making Fernando Torres a part of the deal.

The 30-year-old striker started his career with Atlético Madrid, progressing through their youth system before being sold to Liverpool in 2007.

Since arriving at Chelsea for £50 million in 2011 he has never lived up to his full potential and would certainly be sacrificed if Mourinho though it would help him sign Costa.

As for Costa he is not a player with multi-talents but he is a goal scoring machine netting 24 times in la Liga this season including last night’s solitary goal in the win over Granada that sees the Mattress Makers go top of the table above Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Mourinho will hope that the 25-year-old Spanish international will bring the Blues the killer punch they need after Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba have failed to deliver the goals the Chelsea boss expected.
