There were a few sceptical Chelsea fans around last summer after the Blues splashed out £12 million on young French defender Kurt Zouma, and rather than bring the lanky youngster to Stamford Bridge they immediately loaned him back to Saint Etienne.
Roll on one year though and it all makes sense after the 20-year-old put in a man-of-the-match performance in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Bridge yesterday evening.
Zouma who earns six times less money that John Terry takes home each week was superb in his tackles and interceptions leaving some fans to call him the “new Paolo Maldini” after an almost faultless display.
