After having the best season of their careers it would appear as if the team that won the Premier League title less than a year ago has just switched off, busy with other things on their minds other than defending their title.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho meanwhile is far from perfect, but no one can criticise his passion for Chelsea football clubs and his desire to win games, something that cannot be said of some of the Blues players.

Mourinho has tried to do all he can to motivate his player using both the carrot and stick, yet nothing has seemed to work as the club finds itself very close to the relegation zone.

Following the loss to Leicester on Monday night the Portuguese manager accused his players of betraying him, a sure sign that some of the players in the team have given up caring whether or not Mourinho stays or goes.

Mourinho certainly will not be hard up should Roman Abramovich decide to show him the axe, as he had only just signed a new four-year contract back in August, that is believed to contain a clause that stipulates should he get fired the club must pay him a year’s salary or keep paying his monthly wage until he finds another job, meaning the 52-year-old would probably pocket around £10 million.

Mourinho does however still have two things going for him, the fact he still has the backing of the fans and that Chelsea are through to the last 16 of the Champions League. All of this of course has not stopped Abramovich from pulling the trigger in the past which leads us to believe that the reason Mourinho still has his job is because there is nobody out there to replace him at Stamford Bridge with Pep Guardiola and Diego Simeone not available until the summer assuming they wanted the job in the first place.

Our guess here at Soccer Transfers is that Mourinho is now a dead man walking and it is a matter of days rather than months before we see him packing his bags.
