Officials at Chelsea football club are doing everything they can to distance the club from a group of supporters who racially abused a black man on the Paris metro yesterday.

Someone managed to video the incident in which a group of Chelsea fans prevented a black man from getting on the train at the Richelieu-Drouot station.

The fans can be heard singing on the video “we’re racist, we’re racist and that’s the way we like it”.

Chelsea football club has since released a statement saying that the club will back any criminal action that is taken against all those involved in the incident.

The Chelsea statement read:

Such behaviour is abhorrent and has no place in football or society. We will support any criminal action against those involved, and should evidence point to involvement of Chelsea season-ticket holders or members the club will take the strongest possible action against them, including banning orders.

The Guardian newspaper managed to catch up with Paul Nolan who filmed the event to hear his take on the event.

I was just completely appalled by it and so that’s why I tried to catch some of it on my phone, although I was a bit self-conscious as it was getting quite aggressive and I overhead one of the Chelsea fans say something about stabbing someone. I think he was referring to a Paris Saint-Germain supporter who was on the platform.

There definitely was a culture shock. I heard a couple of French guys saying: ‘I can’t believe this. It’s insane.’

Let’s hope that these idiots are caught and made an example of, so that other haters will think twice about their own behaviour.

You can watch the disgusting video below.
