In what would be the biggest transfer deal in the history of football Chelsea has moved a step closer in their quest to sign Barcelona star Lionel Messi after the Argentinian striker is said to be considering a move from the Catalan giants.

Chelsea has in recent weeks been linked with a huge £200 million bid for arguably the world’s best known player, despite all talk of trying to sign the 27-year-old being played down by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

Meanwhile Barcelona presidential candidate Agusti Benedito says the club has received an offer for Messi and that they are considering selling him.

‘Messi has really big offers to leave and go to another country,’ he told Goal.com.

‘It seems the current board aren’t concerned with keeping him happy.

‘It would be a mistake to sell him – I think he’s waiting to see who will come in as president.’

These comments go along with the rumours that Messi is pushing for a summer exit from the Nou Camp.
