Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger has put Chelsea and Manchester United on alert after writing in his autobiography that he could be prepared to leave the Bundesliga champions and move abroad.

The 30-year-old World Cup winner has been at the Bavarian club since 1998 and is out of contract in 2016 according to reports in Spain who claim he says that he has achieved all he can with Bayern.

In the past both Chelsea and Manchester United have made enquiries about Schweinsteiger with United manager Louis van Gaal knowing him well from his time at the club.

The United boss had made AS Roma’s Kevin Strootman his preferred defensive midfielder of choice but now given the Dutch international’s knee problems he may be forced to look elsewhere.

Should the talk of the Schweinsteiger wanting to leave be true, there will be plenty of competition from Europe’s top clubs for his signature including PSG, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
