In what must be a bitter blow for both Manchester United and Arsenal summer signing target Marcus Reus has put pen to paper and signed a new deal with his current club Borussia Dortmund.

Given Dortmund’s current plight sitting bottom of the Bundesliga and facing possible relegation both Manchester United and Arsenal though that the prospect of Champions League football would be enough to entice the 25-year-old to leave Germany.

Reus’s old contract ran till 2017 but a buyout clause of £20 million was set to become active in the summer.

The German winger’s new deal with the Westphalia side now runs till 2019 and has had the buyout clause removed dashing any hopes the Premiership duo may have had of signing him.
