Aston Villa is prepared to offer striker Christian Benteke £15 million if he refuses the advances of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United by signing a new contract that will keep him at Villa Park.

The club record £70,000 per-week four-year-contract is hardly big enough to chase of the 24-year-old Belgium internationals list of suitors, but it is a huge move by Villa who hope that Benteke who is apparently happy at the Midlands club will show his loyalty and pen a new deal.

Sherwood said: “He needs to sign a new contract. We need to offer him a new contract, which the club are prepared to do, and he needs to sign it.

“When he does we know he’s not going anywhere. I will have a chat with him. I have told him already that I want him to stay at the club.

“I’m not sure what his plans are, he didn’t tell me either way. We just tried to get the FA Cup final out the way.”

Sherwood added: “I think it is right to talk to him about the speculation and we need to put it to bed.

“We know he’s happy. It’s out there, I put it out there, he’s got a buy-out clause. If no one meets that he won’t be going anywhere.”

The buyout clause is reportedly £32.5 million which is well within the scope of the clubs that are looking to sign him.
