Not only did Liverpool striker Luis Suarez effectively knock England out of the World Cup with his two goals for Uruguay he also stirred up interest at the Nou Camp where Barcelona now feel they can trigger the strikers release clause by making a £70 million bid.

We could also in fact put down the Catalan’s interest to England manager Roy Hodgson who had some negative remarks about the Liverpool hit man, but Suarez replied with the way he knows best by scoring two goals and later telling the Daily Mirror: “It wasn’t revenge, but in England they talked about the injury and the coach had words that annoyed (me). The England coach said I was a proven Premier League player, but not world class. So there is the answer.”

People are now assuming that these remarks are the opening shots in a battle to now leave the Premiership for Spain where he is also thought to be a summer target for Real Madrid with club president Florentino Perez ready to make him his latest Galatico.

Barcelona is in the process of rebuilding the club and new manager Luis Enrique, sees Suarez as playing a vital role up front alongside Neymar and Lionel Messi.

Liverpool however remain confident that they can keep Suarez at Liverpool after the 27-year-old singed a new contract last Christmas, and also with the prospect of Champions league football to look forward to next season.

Real Madrid however usual get what they want and if a bidding war between them and Barcelona breaks out Liverpool’s American owners will surely consider selling their prized asset should a bid in the £100 million range be made by either club.
