La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have confirmed that they are interested in bringing Chelsea want away striker Diego Costa back to the Vincente Calderon this summer.

The 27-year-old Brazilian born Spaniard is said to be fed up with his treatment in England and wants to return to Spain where he apparently was not singled out by referees as a troublemaker.

The always in the news striker was signed by Chelsea from Atletico in 2014 for £35 million and hope that the arrival of new trainer Antonio Conte will be enough to make Costa change his mind and remain at Stamford Bridge.

For his part however Costa knows that Atletico wants him back so is determined to push through a move that will see him return to the Spanish capital.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo, in an interview with Onda Cero via the Daily Mirror, said: “Diego Costa has a contract with Chelsea. Many times a club wants a player who us under contract.

“It is totally logical that Atletico is interested in the return of the striker but to negotiate with Chelsea is very hard, nearly impossible.”

Atletico Madrid trainer Diego Simeone is known to be a huge admirer of Costa, and by resigning him the powers that be at the club hope it will go a long way in keeping the Argentinean manager at the club despite interest in his services from teams in the English Premier League.

Cerezo added: “I believe that Simeone will be with us for many years. If any time in the future he does leave Atletico then he will give us sufficient warning.”
