Arsenal top scorer has gone off the boil

When speaking ahead of Sundays FA Cup fifth round match between Arsenal and Middlesbrough at the Emirates, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted that summer signing Alexis Sanchez could be suffering from fatigue.

The Chilean international was signed from Barcelona during the summer and has featured in 33 games this season which includes 22 of the clubs 25 Premier League matches, with Wenger saying in December that he thought the clubs top-scorer could do with a rest.

The Frenchman is now saying the same thing again given the way the 26-year-old played against Leicester City last Tuesday night in which he also suffered a kick to the knee.

“He had not the same intensity in his game as he had until now,” Wenger told reporters.

“I’m not sure he was free in his head to sprint as he used to. I don’t know if it was down to the kick he got on his knee, but he was not himself.”

Wenger claims the injury is not serious one, and that Alexis may take part in the match with Middlesbrough on Sunday.

“He has a swollen knee and he cannot move well, but it’s only a kick, nothing else,” said Wenger.

“If he’s not available for Sunday, he will be available next week.”
