Arsenal is going to have to get their skates on if they still have any desire to sign German defensive midfielder Sami Khedira from Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old was on Gunners manager Arsene Wenger’s list of summer transfer targets last year, but Khedira decided to stay with the European Champions as he battled a series of injuries.

Now it would appear as if he may be heading home to the Bundesliga with Roberto Di Matteo’s Schalke favourites to land him.

Schalke chairman Clemens Tonnies when speaking recently to German newspaper Bild said: “It’s my impression that Khedira wants to return to the Bundesliga.

“I believe he does not doubt that for a second. I believe there aren’t too many clubs in Germany coming into question.”
