Arsenal, Manchester United

In what to us here at Soccer transfers seems like a surprise move football website caughtoffside in what they call an exclusive is saying that Arsenal is preparing a shock  £18 million bid for Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini.

As part of Arsenal’s summer rebuilding plans to ensure that the club do not next season find themselves short of players to compete for the title, Wenger is looking to increase the size of his squad in order to handle whatever injuries may arise.

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes took his former Everton player to Old Trafford in what many people at the time called a panic last minute over priced buy when he signed the Belgium international for £27.5 million.

Fellaini has never managed to live up to his hefty price tag, and with a spate of injuries and loss of form he is now primarily a bench player for the Red Devils.

Now with Moyes gone and a new manager coming in, United are expected to clean house and with at least a dozen players being sold this summer Fellaini’s long term future at the club is in question.

Wenger’s team has been found short on several occasions this season and one player the Arsenal boss will be looking to replace is Mikel Arteta who is getting up there in age at 32, and is coming to the end of his career.

The Arsenal boss was interested in Fellaini last summer, but got out of a bidding war when Wenger found out that Moyes wanted his former player to join him in Manchester.

Now however Wenger is prepared to put an offer of £18 million on the table for the big Belgium a fee which Wenger feels is a more realistic price.

We happen to agree with the Arsenal boss, yet the question remains as to whether United would be willing to take such a loss on the 26-year-old who has never lived up to his big money move.
