Despite reports earlier in the week that Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa had signed for Chelsea the Sunday Mirror is today reporting that Arsenal is preparing an audacious bid for the 25-year-old striker.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has made no secret about the fact he wants to bring in a top striker, and in fact has told people that the Brazilian born Spanish international is the man he wants.

Arsenal are also keen on Costa as well with manager Arsene Wenger saying he wants a striker that can either play alongside current frontman Olivier Giroud or instead of the French front man.

The price Arsenal would need to pay for Costa is also well within their means and would certainly be a big hit with Arsenal fans.

Ahead of Sundays clash with West Bromwich Albion where a win would be enough to secure Arsenal fourth place Wenger said of Giroud: “Maybe we have over-played him at some stage.

“There is perhaps room for an attacking player who can play in a different position to Giroud. Someone who can play with him as well. But I do not know yet who will be on the market.”
